An L-plate is a square plate bearing a sans-serif letter L, for learner, which must be affixed to the front and back of a vehicle in many countries if its driver is a learner under instruction, or a motorcycle rider with provisional entitlement to ride restricted motorcycles.
Red P-Plate (P1)
If you’re 17 or older, have completed your Learner Driver Log Book, and have held your learner licence for at least 12 months, you can attempt the driving test. If you pass, you’ll be issued a provisional P1 licence.
Green P-Plate (P2)
Once you’ve held your provisional P1 licence for at least 12 months, you can attempt the Hazard Perception Test (HPT). If you pass, you’ll be issued a provisional P2 licence.
